“95% Destroyed”: Video Shows Devastation on St. Martin Island After Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma makes its destructive way to Florida, and the storm is classified as Category 5 disaster. It has already struck the Caribbean, and the Dutch side of St. Martin looks like a horror scenery.

The images show the deadly power of Irma. It destroyed shipping containers, luxury boats and even houses.

The famous airport suffered, too. Irma destroyed the roof, and the entire area was flooded. “Alas, the island is not reachable at this point because of the huge damage to the airport and the harbor,” the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said.

Massive rocks destroyed planes on the tarmac, and the walkways literally collapsed under the heavy rain and wind. The airport was filled with water and sand.

Luckily, nobody died in the storm. But, authorities confirmed the death of at least nine people on the French side of St. Martin.

The wind was so strong that it ripped off roofs, and most of the yachts were destroyed completely.

From Daily Mail:

“The Dutch government is holding a crisis meeting about the damage to its part, St. Maarten. Its navy has two ships stationed off the coast of the Island.

Andre van der Kamp, commander of the Dutch ship Zeeland, tweeted that the Zeeland and Pelikaan would be trying to moor on Sint Maarten to deliver emergency aid on Thursday, but they needed to complete a safety check of the port first.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron will go to the islands hit by Hurricane Irma as soon as weather conditions permit, after authorities announced at least eight people died on Saint-Martin.”

Hurricane Irma is the strongest Atlantic hurricane America has ever seen. Its winds developed a speed of 185 mph, and the storm headed to Southern Florida and the Keys. People in these areas are forced to leave their homes.
